I’m this close to finishing the Lace Trench, so to hold you in the meantime, here are a couple of tutorials that I think deserve re-airing. Inspired by Carolyn’s Blog Post, here are two welt tutorials that I wrote:
I wrote an article for Threads Magazine several years back about welt pockets. This post was the basis for that article, and it’s still a foolproof way to make welt pockets and bound buttonholes:

Also, I wrote another tutorial for a better welt pocket method for Vogue’s Alice + Olivia pants:

Now, if you have a spare $25,000 lying around, you can invest in a new Reece Welt Machine. Here’s a used one selling at J. Brathwaite & Co. in England. Not sure what they go for used. It may be worth calling my industrial dealer to see:

Dear Santa…
HTH and happy sewing!
Such a timely post! I’m about to embark on my first weltpocket adventure, and am grateful for these tutorials.
Ann – thanks so much for putting the tutorials in one spot! I will book mark these and screw up my courage and make some samples!
Thanks for the reminder!
I am so glad you just posted these. I am contemplating making the boyfriend jacket I’ve been wanting to make for a while now, and am considering Burda 7421, which has welt pockets. I had kind of read through the instructions on this particular step and put it aside. Your instructions are quite clear. Thanks so much!
LOVE the big red kill switch on that Reece! It looks positively dangerous
Remember well your welt articles. Most helpful to be sure.
On the Reece welt machine – wwweeellll – I’d say one would have to sew one gaboon of welts to justify having it. But then guys have their toys & gals can have theirs as well.
