Almost There on the Dress Form Double

This is the toughest part: I’m almost done, I just have to pad it out a few more layers. This of course, is the frustrating part. What’s frustrating about it? Well, the fact that I have to pad it out this much for one. Ah well, Let me show you some pictures of where it stands. Even with the Funky Padding we built for the form, the bust needed more padding. As Phyllis mentioned in her post, simply adding more fusible batting doesn’t cut it. I wanted to build out volume more realistically, so I created good old-fashioned bust pads from some leftover bouclĂ©.

Added bust padding and some upper chest padding on one side

Now the upper part of the Dress Form Double is pretty much finished. I added more padding to the waist (sigh…) and hips. I don’t need to pad the hips too much, but I need to add some curvature (or lumps, as I call them) in a couple of areas. I am hoping to do that on my lunch hour today and put this baby to bed. Of course, I was not aided by the fact that my building is having an electrical problem, and the overhead lights don’t work in part of it. My landlady hopes to have the electrician out to fix it today.

Getting there

Once I have the entire thing done, I’ll post a full review so you have it all in one place.

Again, thank you for this series. It’s helpful to see what the process involves. I always suspected it was much more than finding an old dress form (I read that it should always be at least two sizes less than your size), slapping on some pads, and pulling a fitting pattern over it.

  2. Phyllis says:

Ann did you leave in the teeny original pad we did or remove it and add these new ones?

    • Gorgeous Things says:

I added these over it, Phyllis. There are three concentric circles. The largest is on the outside. The smaller ones are underneath and they are about a quarter inch smaller than the one above.

    • Gorgeous Things says:

I left it there, Phyllis. This was just additional padding
