This has been a week, I’ll tell you. The kind of week where, if you feed me a martini and some pretzels, I’ll regale you with tales that will both have you keeling over in laughter and cringing in horror over the behavior of people on the internet. So what’s a girl to do when she’s had a week like that? Give stuff away! More on that later.
But first, some updates.
Pam Erny, of Fashion Sewing Supply, is out of the hospital, thank heavens. She’s still pretty weak, so if you are waiting on orders, please be patient. And do keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
On a happy note, Stephanie came by yesterday so I could put the finishing touches on her Latin competition dress, and we got a quick pic of her in it. Good luck this weekend, Stephanie! I hope you take all first places! Lord knows you’ll look marvelous
She’s going to send me a picture of her in full hair and makeup at the comp. If you’re in Manhattan tonight, the Empire Dance Championship is going on at the Conrad Hotel downtown. Stephanie and her partner Vlad are dancing at 7:00. Team Steph!
I made the fitting muslin for my Donna Karan. The size 12 fits well, but I do need a FBA. The good news is that the darts end right below my bust point, so It’s pretty easy to do the FBA. More on that later.
Finally, it’s August, which means absolutely nothing. But I am doing some cleanup in the studio and my home sewing room. I have a metric tonne of books that I have read and really don’t need any longer, so I would like to pass them along to good homes. So if you would like them, here are the ones that are up for grabs. The books are free, but the winners have to pay for shipping, which will be USPS priority mail. Because of the cost of shipping overseas, the giveaway is limited to US readers only.
To win one of the books or sets, answer this question:
What was the title of the “birth announcement of Gorgeous Fabrics” blog post?
(Hint, it’s not “The Birth Announcement of Gorgeous Fabrics”, though that would have been pretty cool in 20-20 hindsight)
Every correct answer will be entered into a drawing for the books. Only one entry per person. Winners will be chosen at random by my sons, and the winners will get a randomly chosen book. They are all fabulous books, so you won’t be disappointed regardless. Now for the fun part. Here are the books up for grabs:
My bag making days are behind me. Been there, done that, now it’s time to pay it forward.
A fun read about British fashion history and the Mod movement.
The title is a misnomer. It’s not about couture techniques, but there are some good RTW techniques in here. It’s a decent book for intermediates.
Book 2 might be lurking in my bookcase. If I can find it, I’ll include it.
A surprisingly good reference. Yes it’s for beginners, but there is great information on measuring and construction.
DH gives me a fashion book every Christmas. He gave me this one twice, and much as I love it, I don’t need two copies.
We’ll do the drawing on Friday, August 16.
That’s everything for now. Have a great weekend, and happy sewing!
