Oh. My. Goodness!!!! I was able to get a stunning selection of REALLY fine silk duppioni from a manufacturer of bridal gowns in New York. And this is STUNNING! It has threads of one shade in the warp and another in the weft, giving it a beautiful iridescent effect. This was used in formalwear that sells in top boutiques for hundreds of dollars. Make your own with a pattern like Vogue 1542 by Patricia Keay. If separates are more your style, you can make a fabulous pair of cigarette pants using Simplicity 8514.
A note about Silk Duppioni - I know silk scares a lot of people. But duppioni is probably one of the easiest fabrics to work with. It doesn't slide as much as other types of silk, and you can even wash it! It will lose its luster and soften up considerably if you machine wash and dry it. You must pre-shrink it if you want to throw it in the dryer, but this is a very forgiving fabric, so have fun with it!
