Happy New Year! Over the last couple of months, we've added new features to improve your shopping experience. The two that I'm most excited about are Grams per Square Meter measurement (GSM) and videos of fabrics!
GSM
GSM is a standardized measurement of the density and weight of a fabric. Lightweight and thin fabrics have low GSM; heavier fabrics have higher GSM. So a fine Egyptian cotton shirting, for instance, may be 66 GSM (as you can see in the image above). Chiffon might be 10-30 GSM. Heavy wool coating might be 400 or ore GSM. GSM gives you a more quantifiable idea of how a fabric will drape and feel than "heavy," "light-to-medium," etc. We'll add GSM to new fabrics going forward. We will try to add GSM measurements to existing fabrics as time allows.
You can see the GSM for fabrics in the Technical Details section of each fabric page:
We can't do GSM measurements on pieces or very short yardages, but it will be available on the majority of fabrics going forward.
Next, and I think this is really exciting, we've added short videos of new fabrics! While static images are great, and we take much care to give you accurate representations in each, there's nothing like seeing a video to understand how a fabric will drape and handle. Videos are available on the newest fabrics, and we'll do them for fabrics going forward. We'll back-fill older fabrics as time allows. Scroll through the images for a fabric to the last - that's the video. I hope you find them to be helpful!
Finally, I can't believe it has been so long since my last blog post. I post constantly on Instagram, so that's the best place to see my ongoing projects and site updates. I cross post to Facebook as well. I'll continue to blog here periodically, and if you're on the email list, you'll get notifications of posts, updates, sales, and important announcements. So be sure to sign up for emails, and of course,
Happy sewing!
