It's fall, and my sew-jo is back, right on schedule. I made an Ann Tee Top last week, which I will finally get to wear this week, and I made a pair of leggings for spin class. For these, I used Simplicity S8212, View B.
This is a cropped pair of plain leggings with a 2 inch wide waistband. elastic. They sit slightly below the waist. The pattern consists of 3 pieces: front, back, waistband, and a guide for elastic.
I used Tye-Dye Effect Double Brushed ITY Jersey - Greens/White. This is a perfect fabric for garments that need stretch in both directions. I picked it to go with a top I got at Lululemon a while back. It's not a perfect match, but it's close enough for the gym. Based on my measurements, I would usually make a size medium, but between the amount of ease listed on the pattern and the stretchiness of my fabric, I bumped it down to a size small. That's got plenty of room and movement for me, so check your size and consider going down one.
I used my serger to sew all the seams. I also ran the outer side seams under the coverstitch, more for decorative effect than reinforcement.
I used the cover stitch to finish the hems. That was pretty much all there was to this. From start to finish I think this took me 1 ½ hours. It's a very straightforward pattern and goes together well. I'll wear it to spin class tomorrow. I also made a matching headband. Here's a flat-lay image:
Overall this is a very straightforward pattern to make. I recommend it for beginners, and I'll probably make several more.
Next up, I'm getting ready to do a coat-a-thon. Well, maybe a Coat5K. I have two coats I want to sew: a trench coat from Maria Denmark Sewing Life and a coat inspired by one I saw on Kenneth King in a recent Threads article. More on both of those later.
Happy sewing!
